Course outcomes and pathways
Successful completion of the ACT Real Estate Agent Licence course meets the educational requirements needed for application to Access Canberra for a Real Estate Agent Licence.
Being a holder of a ACT Real Estate Agent Licence can provide you with many benefits, including owning and operating your own real estate agency or employment as a Licensee.
Upon completion of the course students are awarded a Statement of Attainment containing the following 18 units of competency:

Training and assessment
Course assessment is competency based. Competency-based assessment is largely activity-based and practical. However, competence also implies that an individual demonstrates an understanding of the knowledge that is the basis of the practical task being carried out.
There are a combination of assessment activities and tasks requiring written responses. Assessment tasks also contain scenarios that require you to demonstrate you can transfer knowledge into workplace situations.
Completed assignments are uploaded onto the website for marking – there is a 2MB upload limit - or you can email your assignment to us.
Assessment is conducted within approximately 48 hours of submission.
Recognition of prior learning
You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL). RPL is the formal recognition that your current knowledge and skills meet the requirements of a given unit of competency. It does not matter how you achieved your current level of knowledge and competence – formal training, on-the-job training, self study, work experience, life experience. What does matter is that you are able to provide evidence that your knowledge and competence meet the requirements of a particular unit of competency (competency standard). When you have provided this evidence and it has been accepted as proving your knowledge and skill in a particular area, you will be given credit for a specific competency without having to engage in further study. Legislative and licensing requirements
An individual is eligible to be licensed if the individual:
is an adult; and
has the qualifications required for the licence; and
is not disqualified from being licensed or registered
A real estate agent licence can be held by an individual, partnership or corporation.
An individual may hold the licence in their own right and trade under their own name, or under a registered business name. If the individual will hold trust monies for the purpose of the real estate agent licence then it must be in their own name or name of the business.
Partners in a partnership may hold a real estate agent licence if the Commissioner for Fair Trading is satisfied that each person (or corporation) in the partnership is eligible and not disqualified. Similarly to an individual licence, any monies held in trust for the purposes of the Act must be held in an identified trust account.
A corporation may hold a real estate agent licence. A corporation must have at least one director who also holds an individual licence in their own right. All directors of the company must not be disqualified from holding a licence in the A.C.T.
Access Canberra advises that an ACT Licence application is processed within 12 weeks.
All real estate agent licences expire on 30 June which means that licences must be renewed before that date to remain current. To remain eligible for a licence, real estate agents must complete and remain compliant with the requirements of the Agents Act 2003.
You must provide a Police Certificate issued by the Australian Federal Police, with your application. You will need to apply to the Australian Federal Police for the Police Certificate. If the consent form is not attached to this form you can obtain a form and details of fees from the Australian Federal Police website at: http://www.afp.gov.au/business/national_police_checks.html The Police Certificate must be from the AFP and must not be dated more than 2 months before the date of lodging your licence application with us. Note – a Police Certificate is not required if you have a current interstate agent licence and are seeking mutual recognition of that licence for the same activities in the ACT.
